Although a famous section of Prescott for its historic houses, the Joslin area is dominated by the historic "Armory" which now serves as a recreation facility. The hillside streets of Arizona, Washington, Penn, and Rush all offer views of downtown Prescott and Thumb Butte. These residential neighborhoods cross Gurley Street and the business districts into the neighborhoods to the south. Joslin/Whipple is a highly sought after area for its views and proximity to town.
Joslin is a Prescott-based community and offers many features home buyers and builders can appreciate. The residents of the neighborhoods around Gurley St are very familiar with the feeling of "summer". In yesteryear, the sounds of baseball and intramural league softball filled the air along with the smells of cotton candy and popcorn wafting up from Ken Lindley Field. The armory was still known as The Armory and the tennis courts outside were frequently used. Businesses along this stretch of Gurley St included A&W, Copper Kettle, Village Inn Pizza, The Dugout, and the famous Dr. Fongulies Arcade. Today those businesses are long gone, however, the Gurley Street Sports Pub still remains where the Dugout once stood.
Residents on the north-side of Joslin/Whipple (meaning north of Gurley St) have access to views. South-side residents have closer proximity to Yavapai College and the parks. All sort of residential housing is available in Joslin/Whipple. Mobile home parks, single family housing, apartments, condos, and studios all come up for sale. Most of the housing in the Joslin/Whipple tract is affordable and older. Not to say there aren't newer houses which have replaced some of the historic homes, but many of the original structures still remain. As of , prices in Joslin are holding steady.
