Castle Canyon/Fain Park Photo Credit Matt White. Castle Canyon History is rather vague. Growing up in the area and having friends who lived in Castle Canyon provided my family with a small amount of data. During the early 70's, Prescott Valley was a flat broad expanse of empty ranch land known as Jackass Flats; noted by a sole tavern along HWY 69 aptly named, The Jackass Inn.
Traveling from Prescott to Phoenix by vehicle, back in the day, one would pass by a few houses on the left and the Jackass Inn. Few properties existed further into Prescott Valley and Robert Road was all dirt. Early Prescott Valley was much like early Coyote Springs; sparse, eccentric, and not for the faint of heart. As a child I had never been inside the Jackass Inn (to my memory) however, I frequented Reata Pass with my grandfather and knew owner Doc Cavalliere.
Over the years, the mystery behind Castle Canyon Mesa began to reveal itself when a friend from school invited me over to spend the night at his Castle Canyon Mesa house his father was building 40 years ago. The next day, we climbed Baldy Mountain (now known as Glassford Hill) and I saw for the first time a large house, in a canyon near a small lake to the south of Prescott Valley. My friend informed me it was haunted and called it "Fain Castle".

Before the creation of Fain Lake, as we know it today, Castle Canyon was a little known area, hidden along Lynx Creek. As we grew older, Fain Lake was a spot we would go to swim. It felt special because no one knew it existed, spare a few. No roads led to the lake, therefore, in order to gain access we were required to hike. It was years before we would explore the "Castle" in the canyon, but everything started to make sense. A castle, a canyon, and a flat mesa to the south side. There you have it! Castle Canyon Mesa. As of , prices in Castle Canyon Mesa are holding steady.

Castle Canyon has no community amenities because it's more an "area" of town and not a subdivision. Residents enjoy multi-point access and outlets to various streets. Just across from Kings Highway and HWY 69 is Peddler's Pass, a local flea market which relocated from its genesis spot next to Prescott High School on Whipple St. Many other restaurants and services are close by such as Fry's and Wal-Mart. Other sites claim authority on Castle Canyon Mesa, however the information is outdated by years.
